One Enchanted Evening by Lynn Kurland

Title : One Enchanted Evening
Author: Lynn Kurland
Date Read: June 2012
Why did you read it: received it as an early reviewers copy from Library thing and wanted to write a review on it.
What was it about: A duty-bound knight has taken on the task of rebuilding the most dilapidated castle in all of England.
A costume designer gets her chance to shine by showcasing her fairy- tale designs at an upscale party in an authentic medieval castle.
And the magic that whispers along the castle's hallways is about to orchestrate an improbable happily-ever-after.
Who was your favorite Character: Montgomery
How did you feel after reading it: I was completely enchanted by this book and read it in one sitting. My favorite character was Montgomery and I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I am not a real fond of time travel books and have made a point to stay away from them, but I intend on reading everyone Lynn Kurland writes. The way she puts things into prospective and the detail she uses is amazing. I enjoyed that she didn't gloss over a lot of the things in the middle ages like some authors do.

Rule’s Bride by Kat Martin

Title : Rule’s Bride
Author: Kat Martin
Date Read: May 2012
Why did you read it: I got it as an early reviewers copy from Librarything and wanted to write a review.
What was it about: Unrepentant rake Rule Dewar is living the good life when a most surprising even occurs-he falls in love with his wife. After their strategic “marriage of commerce” three years ago, Rule quite forgot about Violet Griffin, the teenage heiress to a Boston manufacturing fortune. He simply spoke his vows, took over her father’s business and returned to England to resume his usual pursuits; high-priced wine, high-stakes gambling and highborn women.
Yet when Violet, now a sophisticated woman, unexpectedly appears at Rule’s London town house, husbandly duties no longer seem so odious-he can’t wait to take his stunning bride to their marriage bed. Violet, however, is not so easily led; she has her own ideas and is seeking an annulment to marry another. But as Rule attempts to win her over, someone else is determined to frame him for murder and keep him out of the way for good.
Who was your favorite Character: Violet’s cousin Caroline.
How did you feel after reading it: I made a point to read the first 2 books in the trilogy before reading this one, and I have to say I was a little disappointed by it. Rule's Bride wasn't as good at the first two. The attack on Violet was predictable.. And just like TheBookNerd mentioned, I found the story between Caroline and Luke more exciting and interesting. I really didn't connect with Rule and Violet like I did with Royal and Lily (Royal's Bride)
But I have to say I did enjoy the read and I enjoy Kat Martin's writing. I am looking forward to seeing if she does indeed write more about the other Oarsmen. I think some of their stories would be very interesting.

Why did you read it: It was the second in a trilogy that I got the 3rd book as an early reviewers from Librarything and wanted to read the whole series in order.
What was it about: Wounded in battle, Major Reese Dewar returns-but his injuries are nothing compared to his shattered heart. Years ago, love-struck Reese departed his home at Briarwood with a promise from raven-haired Elizabeth Clemens that she would make a life with him upon his return. But mere months later, she married the Earl of Aldridge, attaining wealth and status Reese could never match. Memories of that betrayal make his homecoming far more bitter than sweet.
Seeing Elizabeth on his doorstep dressed in widow’s garb twists the knife even deeper. But fear for her young son’s safety has overcome her pride; she begs Reese for protection from those who would see the boy dead to possess his fortune. He agrees to an uneasy alliance, sensing Elizabeth still harbors deep secrets-and Reese knows that he’s placing himself in danger…of losing his heart all over again.
Who was your favorite Character: Reese
How did you feel after reading it: I liked this book just as much as the first one. The characters came to life for me and made me eager to read the last in the series.

What was it about: Royal Dewar is singularly unlucky..forced to choose between his soul mate and his salvation. After years abroad, Royal has returned to Bransford Castle to find his father dying and the family treasury nearly empty. Then the old duke wrests a final promise from his guilt-ridden son: that Royal will marry heiress Jocelyn Caulfield and restore the estate to its former glory. However, it is not his fiancĂ©e who quickens Royal’s pulse, but rather her beautiful cousin Lily Moran.
Penniless Lily knows that nothing can come of their undeniable attraction-but there is a way she can help Royal. Enlisting some questionable characters from her past, Lily concocts an elaborate ruse to recover some of the Bransford fortune from a notorious confidence artist. As the dangerous scheme unfolds, Lily and Royal are thrown together in pursuit of the very thing-money-that keeps them apart.
Who was your favorite Character: Lily
How did you feel after reading it: I thought it was a really good book and was looking forward to reading the rest of the series. The characters were interesting and I found myself on the edge of my seat so to speak, waiting to see if Lily and Royal would end up together. With most romance stories though, I knew deep down they would, because it was a romance, but there were enough twists and turns to make things interesting.

Title : Zombie Island: A Shakespeare Undead Novel.

What was it about: In the follow-up to Shakespeare Undead, vampire William Shakespeare and his Dark Lady are stranded on a mystical island where zombies are plentiful and one man will stop at nothing to become all powerful.
Fresh from a triumphant battle over the zombie horde that invaded London, Vampire William Shakespeare concocts a plot to rid the love of his life from the encumbrance of her husband. After her husband returns to his plantation in America, Kate can return to London under a different name and assume a new identity. No one will believe that the dead Katherine and the Live Kate are the same woman. Of course, as is often the case with true love, all does no go as smoothly as planned. When the two of them are shipwrecked on an island ruled by a wizard and a nymph, as well as infested by zombies, Will and Kate must stop an even larger plot afoot-one that leads all the way to the royal palaces of Queen Elizabeth.
Who was your favorite Character: Will
How did you feel after reading it: I really enjoyed this book and the first one. It was romantic and fun with a modern twist. Little comments that Will made, you could just imagine him living until modern times and being a great movie director now. I really enjoyed that there wasn't a lot of obstacles in Kate and Will's way for their romance as well. In all I thought it was a lighthearted and fun romance that had me 'awwing' and laughing during the whole book.

Shakespeare Undead by Lori Handeland

Title : Shakespeare Undead
Author: Lori Handeland
Date Read: May 2012
Number of Pages: 291
Why did you read it: I got the sequel as a early reviewer copy and thought I should read the first one before hand.
What was it about: Something wicked this way comes.. and it keeps coming and coming and coming…
William Shakespeare was one of history’s greatest writers, a master of words with a body of work that is truly impressive.. some may say a little too impressive for a single man to accomplish in one lifetime.
Perhaps, as many have speculated, he had assistance. Or perhaps the explanation is more.. unusual. Who was William Shakespeare? Who was the Dark Lady of the Sonnets? Why are there undead stalking the alleyways of London? And can they be stopped? Something is Definitely rotten in the state of Denmark. So brace yourself for a wild ride through twisted streets and shadowed graveyards of Elizabethan London, where you’ll discover how the Bard got his Bite.
Who was your favorite Character: Will
How did you feel after reading it: It was a good read. Funny and interesting. Kept going instead of being too cheesy. I was happy that there was a second in the series. It was very enjoyable and there were many times I found myself laughing at the antics of Will and his Dark Lady. There were little comments made by Will that indicated that he may still be around producing modern movies which tickled me as well. This book leaned heavily on Romeo and Juliet, which is my favorite play so it was really fun to read. I loved how Will would lose track of everything, including the zombies because he'd take one look at his Dark Lady and be lost in inspiration.

The Prophet by Amanda Stevens

Title : The Prophet
Author: Amanda Stevens
Date Read: April 2012
Why did you read it: It was the last in a great series.
What was it about: My name is Amelia Gray.
I am the Graveyard Queen, a cemetery restorer who sees ghosts. My father passsed down four rules to keep me safe and I've broken every last one. A door has opened and evil wants me back.
In order to protect myself, I've vowed to return to those rules. But the ghost of a murdered cop needs my help to find his killer. The clues lead me to the dark side of Charleston-where witchcraft, root doctors, and black magic still flourish-and back to John Devlin, a haunted police detective I should only love from afar.
Now I'm faced with a terrible choice: Follow the rules or follow my heart.
Who was your favorite Character: Amelia
How did you feel after reading it: I am hoping that  maybe the author will come out with more in this series. Though at the end I was a little annoyed with Amelia that she couldn’t just be happy that she got everything she got. I finally got to see her and Devlin together but there was a strange miasma hanging over things because she just couldn't let herself be happy about it all. But the characters are well thought out and able to invoke a good response from me so I will definately read more if she puts anymore out in this series.

The Kingdom by Amanda Stevens

Title : The Kingdom
Author: Amanda Stevens
Date Read: April 2012
Why did you read it: It was the second in a good series
What was it about: Deep in the shadowy foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains lies a dying town..
My name is Amelia Gray. They call me the Graveyard Queen. I've been comissioned to restore the old cemetery in Asher Falls, South Carolina, but I'm coming to think I have another purpose here.
Why is there a cemetery at the bottom of Bell Lake? Why am I drawn time and again to a hidden grave I've discovered in the woods? Something is eating away at the soul of this town-this withering kingdom-and it will only be restored if I can uncover the truth.
Who was your favorite Character: Amelia
How did you feel after reading it: I was so glad that the third was just about to be released so I wouldn’t have to wait to finish the story of Amelia and Devlin. This one took her away from Devlin and almost had her in a relationship with a different man. I am really glad the author didn't go that route, though I feel Amelia is being a little too cautious of the ghosts where Devlin is concerned, there is a connection between those two that is worth reading more about.

I've vowed to keep my distance, but the pull of his magnetism grows every stronger even as the headstone symbols lead me closer to truth and to the gossamer veil that separates this world from the next.
Who was your favorite Character: Amelia

The Abandoned by Amanda Stevens

Title : The Abandoned
Author: Amanda Stevens
Date Read: April 2012
Why did you read it: It was a prequel to a series I wanted to read.
What was it about: There are rules for dealing with ghosts. Too bad Ree Hutchins doesn't know them.

Driven by a force she doesn't understand, Ree is compelled to uncover an old secret and put abandoned souls to rest—before she is locked away forever....
Who was your favorite Character: Ree

It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. Who was your favorite Character: Jacob

Title : Hunt the Moon
Author: Karen Chance
Date Read: 2011
Why did you read it: It is the last of the Cassie Palmer series.
What was it about: Cassandra Palmer recently defeated a god, which you'd think would buy a girl a little time off. But it doesn't work that way when your job description is Pythia-the world's chief clairvoyant. Cassie is busier than ever, trying to learn about her power, preparing for her upcoming coronation, and figuring out her relationship with the enigmatic sexy master vampire, Mircea.
But someone doesn't want Cassie to become Pythia, and is willing to go to any lengths to make sure the coronation ceremony never happens- including attacking her mother before Cassie is even born.
Who was your favorite Character: John (Don't know his last name)
How did you feel after reading it: I wasn't actually able to finish this book. I tried and tried but in the end I stopped reading for nearly 2 months because I just couldn't get myself to finish this book. Maybe I can go back to it at some point and I'll be able to finish it. Until then I'll just set it on the shelf.

Curse the Dawn by Karen Chance

Title : Curse the Dawn
Author: Karen Chance
Date Read: 2011
Why did you read it: 4th in an ongoing series I am reading
What was it about: Cassie Palmer may be the world’s chief clairvoyant, but that doesn’t mean people have stopped trying to kill her. And now, the self-styled god Apollo, the source of Cassie’s power, is on the warpath—leaving her no choice but to face down her creator once and for all.
Who was your favorite Character: Cassie
How did you feel after reading it: A lot of the plot lines are getting old and I am beginning to feel that I am reading the books now just to complete the series rather then for actual enjoyment. Cassie is even more winey and fighting against the people who are trying to help her. Time and again John has risked his life and limb to save her and she doesn't really show a lot of gratitude for him for it. How often can someone save a person's life and not get any kind of recognition in return and continue doing it?

Embrace the Night by Karen Chance

Title : Embrace the Night
Author: Karen Chance
Date Read: Oct 2011
Why did you read it: 3rd in an ongoing series I am reading.
What was it about: Cassandra Palmer may be the world's chief clairvoyant, but she's still magically bound to a master vampire. Only an ancient book called the Codex Merlini possesses the incantation to free Cassie-but harnessing its limitless power could endanger the world...
Who was your favorite Character: Cassie
How did you feel after reading it: There is the romance that I wanted to see in the second book, but not with the two people I wanted to see it with. There is an attaction between them, when they are together they can't seem to keep their hands off each other but still not exactly what I wanted to see. But the series is still pretty good, but I am kind of getting tired of Cassie being so rebellious and sometimes winey. I understand that her whole life has changed drasticly but these people are trying to help her and she is just fighting them every step of the way.

Why did you read it: Second in a series.
What was it about: Clairvoyant Cassie Plamer has inherited new magical powers-including the ability to travel through time. But it's a whole lot of responsibility she'd rather not have. Now she's the most popular girl in town, as an assortment of vamps, fey, and mages try to convince, force, or seduce her-and her magic-over to their side.
