Sacred Evil

Title: Sacred Evil
Author: Heather Graham
Date Read: August 2011
Number of Pages:
Why did you read it: Was the third in an ongoing series
What was it about: A Terror born of Jack the Ripper
The details of the crime scene are no coincidence. The body-a promising starlet-has been battered, bloodied and then discarded near two of Manhattan’s oldest graveyards.
One look and Detective Jude Crosby recognizes the tableau: a re-creation of Jack the Ripper’s gruesome work. But he also sees something beyond the actions of a mere copycat. Something more dangerous..and more unexplainable.
As the city seethes with suspicion, Jude calls on Whitney Tremont, a member of the country’s preeminent paranormal investigating team, to put the speculation to rest. Yet when Whitney and Jude delve deeper, what they discover is more shocking then either could have predicted, and twice as sinister…

Who was your favorite Character: Andrew, Jude’s father
How did you feel after reading it: It was sort of hard to finish this book because I thought it was a trilogy but then found out there was another coming out as well. I was on the edge of my seat with this book. Normally when I read mysteries I don't have a clue who the killer is. This time I had two guesses, the two that the author wanted me to have. And without giving anything else away, I'm going to stop there and let you enjoy the book :D

Heart of Evil

Title: Heart of Evil
Author: Heather Graham
Date Read: August 2011
Number of Pages:
Why did you read it: Second in a really good mystery series
What was it about: Emerging from the bayou like an apparition, Donegal Plantation is known for its unsurpassed dining, captivating atmosphere, haunting legends…and now a corpse swinging from the marble angel that marks its cemetary’s most majestic vault. A corpse discovered in nearly the same situation as that of Marshall Donegal, the patriarch killed in a skirmish just before the Civil War.
Desperate for help traditional criminologists could never provide, plantation heiress Ashley Donegal turns to an elite team of paranormal investigators who blend hard forensics with rare-often inexplicable-intuition. Among the “Krewe of Hunters” is an old flame, Jake Mallory, a gifted musician with talent stretching far beyond the realm of the physical, and a few dark ghosts of his own.
The evil the team unveils has the power to shake the plantation to its very core. Jake and Ashley are forced to risk everything to unravel secrets that will not stay buried-even in death…

Who was your favorite Character: Beth the cook
How did you feel after reading it: It was good book and was eager to read the third in the series. It's nice to read a book about FBI and what not that doesn't include a fight between FBI and local law inforcement. I am really enjoying this series.

Phantom Evil

Title: Phantom Evil
Author: Heather Graham
Date Read: August 2011
Number of Pages:
Why did you read it: It looked good and I enjoy reading Heather Graham
What was it about: A secret government unit is formed under the oversight of Adam Herrison, famed Paranormal investigator. The six members he’s gathered know a little of the otherworldly-each has honed a psychic talent of their own.
Jackson Crow, part English, part Cheyenne, heads the group. Haunted by his experience with an ancestral ghost who saved his life as a child, and the recent murders of two previous teammates, Jackson can’t tell if Adam’s demoted him or given him an extraordinary opportunity. Despite his link to the realm of spirits, he’s well aware that the living commit the most heinous crimes, with spiritualist charlatans existing emrely to fool and seduce the unwary.
To counterbalance Jackson’s careful skepticism, Adam Harrison has paired him with Angela Hawkins, a young woman who learned a painful lesson of loss at an early age. A police officer utilizing her paranormal intuition in Virginia, she already has her hands full. But Adam’s call to New Orleans is strong.
The case: In a historic mansion in New Orleans French Quarter, a senator’s wife falls to her death from a balcony. Most think she jumped, distraught over the loss of her young son. Some say she was pushed. And yet others believe she was beckoned by the ghostly spirits that inhabit the house-once the site of a serial killer’s grisly work.
Whether supernatural or all too human, crimes of passion, greed and desire will cast the pair into danger of losing their lives…and their immortal souls.

Who was your favorite Character: Whitney
How did you feel after reading it: It was a good book and I’m eager to read the next one. It reminded me a lot of Kay Hooper's Bishop FBI series but I think I might have liked this a bit better. It wasn't as technical, as this group is working along side the police but working separately. The romance was a nice touch and it was refreshing to read a story where it was more the couple embracing their feelings for one another instead of fighting the attraction between the two. I am looking forward to starting the second one back up because I had already started and got about 40 pages in before I realized it was the second book in a series.

Visions of Magic

Title: Visions of Magic
Author: Regan Hastings
Date Read: March 2011
Number of Pages: 356
Why did you read it: It was the first book in a new series and it looked interesting.
What was it about: Every witch has a destined mate, an Eternal who will serve as her guardian and complete her powers. Once the first of the coven has awakened, the witches must race against time to join with their Eternals and protect the relics that will prevent the destruction of the world..
In the ten years since magic had reemerged, witches have become feared and pursued. For weeks Shea Jameson has been haunted by visions of fire. When she unintentionally preforms a spell in public, she becomes one of the hunted. Her only hope is Torin, a dangerously sensual man who claims to be her Eternal mate.
Torin says that the time of Shea's Awakening has come and that they must find an artifact hidden centuries ago-or else face the end of the world. As her power manifests, and danger and death draw near, Shea must decide whether to trust Torin and the passion and powers he brings her-or risk the destruction of everything she's ever known.
Who was your favorite Character: Rune (another Eternal)
How did you feel: I was a little disappointed that the author felt the need to state she was hiding who she really was at the back of the book. It said "blah blah is a pseudonyn of a USA Today bestselling author of more then a hundred romance books" I think that they should have let the book speak for itself instead of putting that. But It was a good book, kinda rushed the end so i could be done with it before i left my mothers so I could leave it with her. I enjoyed the book and look forward to the next one coming out in Oct. There was a lot of cloak and dagger going on but it was cool and kept the story fast paced. I disliked the villan which was how it's supposed to be. In all it was a good book. It reminded me a lot of Christine Feehan's carpathian novels with the whole two sides of the same soul but instead of vampires, it's witches and her Eternal. I did like the book a lot and suggested it to a few people.

Adam

Title: Adam
Author: Ted Dekkar
Date Read: Mar 2011
Number of Pages: 416
Why did you read it: I saw it at the store awhile ago and thought it looked interesting. It reminded me of the old Dean Koontz books I used to read.
What was it about: Sixteen young women are dead, each injected with a mysterious illness on the night of a new moon and left in various underground basements or caverns. The murderer leaves no clues, except for one scrawled-in-red trademark. “Eve.” Special agent Daniel Clark has devoted his life to tracking and finding serial killers and Eve is proving an especially difficult case. Difficult, that is, until Clark and his colleagues find Eve’s latest victim still alive. In a race to save the girl’s life and potentially discover the killer’s idenity, Daniel finds himself in danger. A runin with Eve leaves Daniel Clinically dead for twenty minutes, only to survive but remember nothing of the incident. As Daniel attempts to recall he details before his attack, the killer strikes again, this time much closer home to all he holds dear. Danile takes his obsession to a dangerous new level. Soon enough he finds himself in a world were blurred lines between life and death leave him fighting for his very life.

How did you feel after reading it: The book was a good read! It didn't grab me and keep me like some books do but I wasn't completely bored with it either. I was a little disappointed that it ended the way it did. I mean it was a good book and good ending but it just didn’t seem to wrap up very well. It just.. ended.. there was no wrap up. Everyone lived happily ever after. Daniel and Heather got back together and so forth. We know Lori quit the FBI and went on to teach and Alex went to jail but other then that we don't know what happened to the other players. But in all it was a very good book and I think I am going to read more of his when I get the chance. My uncle Brian mentioned that his circle series was very good.

Something Wicked

Title: Something Wicked
Author: Michelle Rowen
Date Read: January 2011
Number of Pages: 368
Why did you read it: It was a sequel to a book I liked
What was it about: Living in Eden isn’t exactly heaven on earth…
Darrak, the demon inside Eden Riley, is able to take physical shape during the day. And Eden wouldn’t mind getting her hands on him-if it wasn’t a threat to her immortal soul. But while trying to rid themselves of the curse that binds them, they could get the distance they need..or each have their own private hell to pay.
How did you feel after reading it: Happy and Sad at the same time. It was a great book but the next one isn’t coming out until next year. The first book was a lot of Eden freaking out every other day but this book was much better because it was developing Darrak more. The author seems to enjoy building a character up and drawing you in and then killing the character up. I can only hope that habit will stop and perhaps we will see Theo again sometime. I had a hard time finishing this book but I think it was more because it was so good that i didn't want it to end and less about the book being bad. I am definately looking forward to the next book coming out in December of 2011.

Devil's Due

Title: Devil’s Due
Author: Arliss Adams
Date Read: January 2011
Number of Pages: 216
Why did you read it: Was a sequel to a book I read yesterday.
What was it about: Jen Connor has withstood violent rape, a near-fatal illness, the loss of a husband, and the smashing of her dreams. But that was only the beginning. Unappeased, fate has dealt her a new set of challenges. As she rises from the ashes to achieve renown in the theatrical world, she must face what awaits her in Los Angeles: powerful, vindictive former in-laws who are deteremined to fight for custody of Jen’s young son at all costs. What she doesn’t know is that an ancient enemy will surface, firing her desire for retribution. She has an arsenal of formidable friends-a Russian ballet instructor with shadowy contacts, an acid-tongued critic, a new man in her life, and a long-lost sister. Together they stand against Jen’s adversaries, but will they be enough? (From Amazon Product Description)
How did you feel after reading it: Satisfied that Jen finally got her revenge and happy ending. I was both dreading and looking forward to reading this book after finishing the first. The first one had left me feeling so connected the Jen. The second book was less about Jen, it instead followed her sister Judy and what happened to the people who hurt Jen in the past. This made it not as heart wrenching as the first one was but it was still very good. As I said earlier it was satisfying to see Jen get her happy ending. Arliss Adams did not disappoint in this sequel and I will recommend both books to my friends and family.
